[Honda-C70] Re: High Mileage

Those are very high mileage and high price. I bought my '81 a couple of months ago. It is near mint with 1300 miles and I paid $1050. 2 of my buddies have an 80 and the other an 81 and they paid 550 and 750 respectively. Theirs had around 7k miles. Not sure if the prices fluctuate much around the country but I live in central IL and the near mint, low mile c 70s go for usually no more than 1300 bucks. The "average" ones around 7-900, and running but need a little work around 500. There are 5 of us in town with these and we ride together and are always shopping to see what's out there. Hope that helps

I am looking at two 1981 C70's that appear to be in very good condition, but I am concerned about mileage and price. One has 11K and the other has 17K. He is asking 900 for each. The price seems high but I was gonna try and haggle it down to buy both. Any advice on mileage and pricing would be great. If this has been covered and someone can send me the link I that would be great too.

Re: [Honda-C70] High Mileage

If you can afford to spend another $500 or so on a low miler (under 2,00 miles)--do it. You will spend a great deal of time and cash owning an old beater. Penny wise...

[Honda-C70] Re: Stolen Passport

The plastic lens (and the bulb inside) shattered and the stock got bent up a bit. Plan is to try and bend the stock back to as straight as possible and put a new lens and bulb in there.

Also noticed last night that the original unblemished seat cover has a nice tear in the side that was not there before, so the repairs are starting to add up, but at least I still have it.

It also has a red gas tank freshly installed. I will be keeping tabs on the usual places like E-bay and craigslist and have reported it to the county and state police, but I figured the more eyese the better, so if anyone sees a Passport fitting this description for sale or elsewhere, please contact me. Thank you much.

Re: [Honda-C70] Re: Carburetor fix

Bill, you forgot to put down the real formula:

A leaky brass float with fuel residue + torch = explosion.

A brass float is made out of very thin material and it should be very easy to solder it with a solder gun. If you clean the old solder first with a scruffing pad and re-flux it, you should be able to resolder the seam easily. Using a torch makes it hard to control the amount of solder dispense on the joint. Too much solder makes the float heavyer.

A torch = pain, even new house
A large soldering iron works best.

Brass float + solder + torch = good?

There must be some way you can "Braze" it shut again. It was originally.

Wonder how the floats wear out?

But yeah, use a torch and try not to add too much material. If you have a postal scale weigh it before and after.

[Honda-C70] Re: High Mileage

That seems super high price for the mileage. I paid $1,050 a couple months ago for a near mint '81 C 70 with 1300 miles and I have 2 friends who bought good condition 81's with 7-9000 miles- one paid $550 and the other $750.

[Honda-C70] 6v electric start

Got a brand new 6v battery, keep it on a battery tender for the week ive had it, ride almost daily
With oem relay I had to tap it to make the e start work which is why I got a new battery for the used c70 I purchased

so I ordered new aftermarket 6v relay too
Still have to tap it to work, but if my charger is connected it e starts all the time
Charger makes battery read 7v or higher

After 15 min of riding I can e start maybe 2 times in a row (not riding anywhere) then after that I have to tap the relay
I did this to see how much power I loose on the battery
after 15 min ride voltage around 6.7+
With engine at idle battery is being charged shows around 6.9v
after 2 starts in a row voltage around 6.5 (then I have to tap relay to start)

So my question is since my only other 6v bike is kickstart only is this normal to get a couple e starts without riding it around to charge it back up
maybe im spoiled to 12v bikes

because I figured a 6v relay needed 6v to operate
but im guessing it needs a very high 6v possibly 7v to trigger?

No matter what the battery can push over the starter no problems, my hurdle to get around is the new relay once that clicks fully the starter could care less what the battery voltage is

I had also sanded all battery connectors, checked ground wire
not sure if a weak point is the little glass fuse holders but I pinched them more so the fuse presses together better, I may look into that later today clean that up
