If you have a short to ground anywhere on the circuit between the neutral
switch and the starter button, it can start in gear and the light will stay
on. It may or may not be a bad neutral switch. Get out your $3.00 Ohm
meter from Harbor Freight:).

I have the same problem
I just took out the neutral bulb
this way the only issue I see is it can start in gear which ive done once by
accident
other then that at least it will start
not like the switch is stuck in the off position
