old saw is that if you think it is electrical, ie, points, condenser, coil, etc, it will be the carb and vice versa, if you think it is fuel related, it turns out to be electrical. Go slow, follow the troubleshooting guide. and remember for the engine to run, you have to have fuel, air, compression and ignition in proper sequence. screw up one and the rest won't matter. Last year, I bought an Isuzu Trooper for 100 bucks cause the owner told me the engine needed rebuilding. would only run on three cylinders and his mechanic told him that if he had to rebuild the head, because it was leaking, then he might as well spend the 2k to rebuild it proper. I towed it home in a snow storm, but the next day, even tho it was colder than a well digger's wallet, I had to look under the hood and see what I had bought. I found one bad spark plug wire, two broken vacuum lines and various loose connections. I repaired all that and it fired right up and
purred like a cat. With the exception of some long due maintenance, it has run just fine. Probably the only difference between me and you is that I have been spinning wrenches since the 60s tinkering with whatever shows up in the driveway. don't get impatient. never pays.
