So my friend and I have an 81
both basically run the same transmission wise
for whatever reason mine is faster but maybe because I just tune mine more then he does.
His brother has an 82, or whatever year the 12v came out
under 2000 miles on it
Seems like the transmission may be slipping?
if im in 3rd rolling around a corner and gun it, sounds like its in 2nd. Higher rpm's but if I lower the throttle then the rpm's slow and it then sounds like its in 3rd
Same thing if im in second turning into a steep hill it will increase in rpm's
Now to me this is a nice feature because instead of bogging some, or just having lower rpm's to me its like a little boost keeps the rpm's higher to help climb
And yes I did check the side adjustment bolt and it was still set to how the book says. I tried fine tuning that but no change so I set it back.
But since I have access to 2 other same bikes they dont do this
So im wondering if this is something on the 12v bikes or is this a sign of a problem
He just bought it used im doing all the maintenance getting it all cleaned up. I changed the oil, it smelled like cigarettes believe it or not. Who knows what was used before with less then 2000 miles on it its sure stanky.
I was hoping the slipping was oil related but I dont think so now, unless I need to flush it out with something if the clutch pads have glazed.
Should I just not worry about it, seems to do decent on very steep hills. Like I said the rpm's do rise alot more then the 2 other bike I have ridden but it actually seemed to help it climb better. At least 2 mph faster then mine on the same hills but I think I read the 12v cdi's are faster anyways
