That is a cool idea. Has anyone tried it and actually saw pieces stuck to the inner end of the bolt?
My understanding was that if engine case is attracted by magnet too, magnetic field would go from bolt to casing and surround the engine along the casing and no field will reach the inner tip of the bolt to attract stuff.
Has this, magnet on the bolt head, worked for someone?

i suppose coffeee filters would do the job well ..

anyway magnets ...i reckon those button neodymium magnets ..just stuck to the outside of the sump plug would be ok ...they are strong enough that they wouldnt come off in everyday use ...the magnetism would be tranfered to the plug ..so that the swarf would collect on the top of it and would come out with the oil change .
