After reading all the postings about elec . starer problems I went out to my 1980 C70 , turned the gas and key on, got a good green neutal light, pushed the starter button in , with no results and while holding the button in, I pushed " down " on the front of the shift pedal and the eleceric starter turned over and fired up the motor. Majic....... Try it on yours and see what happens...It is now my new starting procedure. Paul in Ohio..

First, does the neutral light come on when you are in Neutral and the switch is ON
With the switch on there are two wires to the starter solenoid, one from the battery power, the other to the starter
button. Take a jumper and ground the wire going to the start button. does the starter turn? If not then the solenoid
is bad or the starter. If the starter turns, then the problem is the wiring to the button or neutral switch . You need a multi meter to
really test the wiring. I download a copy of the correct wiring diagram for the bike I am working on and print it bigger then use colored markers to
follow along the wires and jot down notes.
Remember most of the wiring is what is called single wire. There has to be two wires (connections) in all electrical circuits 1 from the + post to the unit
using the power and a wire back to the - post of the battery. Honda uses the frame as the one side of the circuit.
The main power to the starter is from the battery + to the one post on the solenoid. When you press the starter button, power thru the small wire
to the solenoid , goes thru the solenoid to the stater button down to the neutral switch on the engine and to ground. The ground pases the current back to the
battery - post thus completing the circuit.

Subject: [Honda-C70] Electric Start help
I have read through all the posts I can find, and am looking for a quick way to check what is failing on the electric start. I have a brand new battery, horn loud, blinkers work. There is NOTHING when I push the start button. Could it be a connection from when I replaced the battery? Dont mind using the kick start, it would be nice to have the electric start to work. Thanks
