The very center of the wheel is called the hub. It is cast aluminum with two flanges, one on the left
one on the right. The flanges are drilled for the spokes to attach to.
The spoke extends out and goes thru a hole in the rim and a nut called a nipple comes in from
the other side of the rim and screws onto the spoke.
If the spoke broke and the nipple did not pull thru the rim, you will soon have a flat were the nipple
rubbs on the inner tube. If the nipple pulled thru, then yes, you can ride it with a spoke missing.
I have seen people ride for years with the spoke missing. One of the bikes I bought still had the spoke
wrapped around the other spokes. He took the tire off and fished the nipple out and kept on going.
It would be best to buy a new wheel assy. A new rear wheel shows up on E bay once in a while,
used ones all the time, or go big time and buy aluminum race hubs from http://www.tenavintage.com/

Subject: [Honda-C70] 1982 C70 broke spoke & wheel.
Hi Y'All.
I have a 1983 Honda C70 and today got a tie down cable caught in the
rear wheel. The end result is a broken spoke plus the inside wheel the
spoke attaches to was also broken. The center rim (I can't find the part
number or name in the manual) broke off so it has to be replaced along with
the spoke.
One question I have is can I ride it with the broken spoke or will it
seriously screw up something? Another question is the name of the ring that
the spoke attaches to at the center of the rear wheel.
Thanks for any help.
