RE: [Honda-C70] Installing new carb

My 81 clone carb was near perfect . But I had completely disassembled both carbs to compare & make sure everything was right [2 pop flats so no mixed parts ] & tightened correctly. I left the petcock on the fuel lines & gas in the tank & put it on the new carb . Didn`t want to crack old rubber fuel lines. I swapped the petcocks later when I was low on reserve. There are a few ways to go wrong swapping the slides on the cable . Like not getting the cable end in the pocket in the under side of the slide or not getting the slot in the slide lined up with the nub in the body of the carb or dropping the slide in back wards . All will leave the carb stick at 1/2 wide open.

All in all it was easier than changing points for me . My points Hate me , they always go wrong for me. Don`t ask me how I know the wrong ways to install a carb slide , but I didn`t read them . Wish I had . Baby Huey`s 2 cents ps Mike G posted a very detailed post on carb swapping a while back try to find it . Worth the read . To: Honda-C70@yahoogroups.com

Subject: [Honda-C70] Installing new carb

I have a 1980 Honda Passport C70 that needs some carburetor work done. I have a new carb from dratv.com that I was thinking of just installing instead of trying to fix the original one. Here's my question, is installing the new one just as easy as clamping down some tubes, draining the fuel, unbolting the old one, removing the choke and throttle cables, and then bolting on the new one and re-connecting everything?

Will I need to "tune" (besides adjusting the idle screw) the new one or should it just work out of the box?

Thanks
